2024 Syllabus - Guitar

Accompaniment

Perform guitar accompaniment for voice performance. The guitar accompaniment will be assessed, not the vocalist. Time limit: 10 min

Duet (2nd part must be more than chords)

Perform a selection of your own choosing in any style of music from any source including original. Accompaniment is optional. A piano will be provided. Time limit: 10 min

Ensemble

Perform one selection of your own choosing in any style of music from any source including original. Accompaniment is optional. A piano will be provided. Time limit: 10 min

Provincial Qualifying

Perform two (2) musically contrasting selections from the current approved syllabi. Studies or Etudes, as listed in the CC or RCM syllabi, will be permitted; however, only 1 of the pieces selected may be a Study/Etude. Please refer to OMFA syllabus for more details: omfa.ca/syllabus/guitar

The Adjudicator will consider choice of repertoire in their adjudication. Performance must be from memory.

Time limits: Up to Level 7 - fifteen (15) min; Levels 8-9 - twenty (20) min; Level 10 - thirty (30) min; Diploma - forty (40) min; Open - sixty (60) min

Solo - Acoustic

Perform one selection of your own choosing in any style of music from any source including original.

Time limits:
Ages 9 & under - 3 min
Ages 12 & under - 4 min
Ages 15 & under - 5 min
Ages 18 & under - 7 min
Ages 19 & over - 7 min

Solo - Classical

Perform one selection from the approved syllabi, playing the number of movements specified.

Solo - Electric

Perform one selection of your own choosing in any style of music from any source including original. Accepted accompaniment can include live accompaniment by piano, guitar, ukulele, or instrumental backtracks (no vocals) Time limit: 7 min

Solo - Popular

Perform a selection in one or more of the following genres: pop, R & B, soul, rock, alternative, indie, jazz, pop folk or country.

Trio (one part may be chords only)

Perform a selection of your own choosing in any style of music from any source including original. Accompaniment is optional. A piano will be provided. Time limit: 10 min
