Lyrical or Modern
Interpret the lyrics of music, expressing the emotion of the song, usually a ballad. Execute good jazz technique, strongly grounded in ballet fundamentals. Modern dance is characterized by its use of the floor and working with gravity. Performers dance barefoot to maintain a sense of contact and grounding. Two acrobatic tricks (movements where the hips pass over the head) are permitted.
