FOR ALL OPEN CLASSES:
• There will be no repertoire "requirements" as to which pieces are to be played.
• Competitors will be given a time limit and will be asked to play a recital program that will show their virtuosity and should include different genres/eras/styles/languages, etc. Please refer to the Provincials syllabus for time limits for each discipline. Competitors will need to present a varied program with selections at the ARCT level or above. Minimum performance time is 15 minutes.
FOR ALL DIPLOMA CLASSES:
• The Diploma level has a new rule stating that competitors can enter who have only have been playing at the ARCT level for under 2 years. After 2 years of study at the ARCT level they must enter the Open level.
• All pieces at the Diploma level MUST be in either the RCM or CC Syllabus. In the case of sonatas or concertos (except piano) – 2 consecutive movements must be played. The complete work is not required but may be played if desired and as long as it fits into the designated time limit for Diploma classes. Refer to the syllabus for time limits.
FOR ALL DUETS:
• Only 1 selection will be required.
CLASSICAL PIANO
• Piano will now be listed as Classical Piano and will follow the RCM and CC Graded Syllabi
- ANY piece listed in these syllabi cannot be used in the Popular Piano Section
- Studies are now permitted at all levels – but only one study will be permitted per entry.
- We will also allow pieces from the CC "Loud and Clear" Syllabus
CLASSICAL VOICE
• Voice will now be listed as Classical Voice and will follow the RCM and CC Graded Syllabi
GUITAR
• Guitar will now be listed as Classical Guitar and will follow the RCM and CC Grade Syllabi
- ANY piece listed in these syllabi cannot be used in the Popular Guitar Section
- Studies are now permitted at all levels.
MUSICAL THEATRE
• Musical Theatre – Age Levels
- No vocal cuts will be permitted
- Junior Musical Theatre or simplified versions are not permitted
NON-WESTERN STRINGS
• Non-Western Strings
- For instruments like guzheng, erhu, sitar, etc.
POPULAR BRASS
• Popular Brass – Age Levels – NEW (includes Jazz standards)
POPULAR GUITAR
• Popular Guitar – Age Levels – NEW (includes Jazz standards)
