Grace Maxwell was a charter member of the Perth County Music Teachers' Federation who devoted many years to the Music Festival. Her advertisement in the 1927 Perth County Music Festival Program indicated that she was a teacher of piano and theory. The Program also lists her as the local representative of St. Marys on the Perth County Music Festival Executive.

Grace was not only a well-known piano teacher, but was also the Supervisor of Music in the St. Marys public schools. She conducted many school choirs in the Festival. She died suddenly during the summer of 1957 and the Music Teachers of St. Marys donated the Grace Maxwell Trophy in her memory.

This trophy was originally given For Bach Solo.
It has been reassigned to Senior Level classes.
