2025 Syllabus - Piano

Perform piano accompaniment for a soloist. The piano accompaniment will be assessed, not the soloist. Time limit: 10 min

For Elementary-Junior-Intermediate, perform one fast movement of a Concerto or through-composed single movement Concerto. Time limit: Level 8 & Below -15 min Level 9 & Above - 20 min

For Advanced, perform one fast movement of a Concerto or through-composed single movement Concerto. Time limit: 25 min

For Open, perform two consecutive movements of a Concerto or a through-composed single movement Concerto. Time limit: 25 min

Orchestral part for all Concertos will be played on a second Piano.
Please note that the Italian Concerto by J. S. Bach is not permitted in this class.

Perform one selection of your own choosing at the appropriate level or equivalent on one Piano (four hands).

Perform one selection of your own choosing on two Pianos (four hands)

Perform a selection of your own choosing on two Pianos (8 hands)

Perform a selection of your own choosing by a Canadian composer.

For one Piano, six hands. Perform a selection of your own choosing at the appropriate level or equivalent.

For children who are members of a family. Perform a duet or trio on one Piano.

Perform studies from the approved syllabi. Selections need not be memorized. Levels 1 & 2 perform one study; Levels 3-6 perform two studies. Note: Pop studies should be played in the Pop section unless permitted on RCM or CC exam.

For groups with at least one adult performer (i.e. mother/son, husband/wife, grandmother/granddaughter). Perform a selection of your own choosing on one Piano.

Student and teacher perform a duet together of their own choosing.

Perform any List A selection from the approved syllabi at your present level of study.

Perform any List B selection from the approved syllabi at your present level of study.

Perform two or three contrasting pieces from the approved syllabi at your current level of study. If three pieces are performed, one selection may be one level above current level of study. (Level piece must be played at Final). Performers will be assessed on selection and program arrangement as well as technique and interpretation. These selections may not be played in any other classes. Time limit: 15 min

Perform two musically contrasting selections in one or more of the following genres: pop, R & B, soul, rock, alternative, indie, jazz, pop folk or country. Selections need not be memorized but it is recommended. Time limit: 15 min

Perform a selection from the current Popular Selection list from the approved syllabi. Selections need not be memorized but it is recommended.

Perform a selection in one or more of the following genres: pop, R & B, soul, rock, alternative, indie, jazz, pop folk or country. Playing from memory is not mandatory but is recommended.
