2026 Syllabus - Guitar
Provincials requirements: (no solo Ukulele classes)
Classical Guitar Solo Levels 1-10, Adult: Two (2) contrasting selections from the current Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) or Conservatory Canada (CC) syllabus for their particular instrument. For French Horn, Trombone, and Euphonium competitors, selections not listed in the RCM or CC syllabus will still be accepted if accompanied by a verification of grade/level from a local music teacher or conservatory of music.
Maximum performance time -- Level 1-7: Fifteen (15) min; Levels 8 & 9: Twenty (20) min; Levels 10: Thirty (30) min; Level 10: Thirty (30) min Adult: Twenty-five (25) min
Classical Guitar Solo Open (ARCT and above): minimum of two (2) contrasting pieces are required, however, you may add a third piece if it fits within the maximum time limit. Level 10 pieces and below are not permitted in this category. Pieces do not need to be listed in the RCM or CC syllabi.
Maximum performance time -- Forty-five (45) min
Popular Guitar Solo All Levels: One (1) selection. Selections from Conservatory Canada (CC) Contemporary Idioms lists and the Royal Conservatory of Music Popular Lists (RCM) are eligible. Rap, Hip Hop and songs listed in the RCM or CC Classical Syllabi are not.
Duets & Trios (Classical & Popular): One (1) selection.
Ensembles (Classical only): One (1) or (2) selections
Guitar Solo by Years of Study
The year of study is based on when you first started playing your instrument, not when you began individual instruction. Please select accordingly. Selections need not be memorized. Time limit: 7 min

Classical Guitar Solo #1
Memorization is required.
If your piece is a sonata you will need to define which movements you will be playing. If your piece does not have any movements please put "none".
Refer to the RCM or CC syllabus to determine how many and which movements of a selection are required (i.e. one mvt., two mvts., or complete).
Studies/Etudes as listed in the RCM or CC syllabi are permitted.

Competitors must perform a selection from any of the following genres: pop, pop/ folk, R & B, soul, rock, alternative, indie, jazz or country.

Memorization is not required but is highly recommended.

Recital
Perform three contrasting pieces from the approved syllabi at your current level of
