Donated By: Mrs. Malcolm MacBeth, Milverton
First Presented: 1938
Criteria: Best Junior Choir SA
Malcolm MacBeth settled in Milverton, Ontario in 1893. He purchased the Milverton Sun Newspaper which he published until 1933. Malcolm was a man who was extremely interesred in community affairs. He served on the boards of several organizations, including 30 years as a trustee on the Milverton School Board. His daughter, C. Isabel MacBeth, competed in the early days of the Festival, from 1927 through 1933, in the vocal classes.
It is not surprising that this very generous and community minded individual, with a strong connection to local schools, donated the Malcolm MacBeth Challenge Shield for Rural School Choirs in 1929. As these shields could be won outright, it soon disappeared from the trophy collection. After Malcolm's death in 1936, Mrs. MacBeth presented the Malcolm MacBeth Trophy in memory of her late husband.
