Criteria: Most Deserving Secondary School Senior Band

Prior to immigrating to Canada, Ben Scott served in the British Military, serving in, among other places, Malaysia. He played in the prestigious Golden Circle, a group of select musicians, who played at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. He came to Canada as one of Four Military Band Masters. Ben held this post in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He played the oboe in the Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Kitchener-Waterloo Symphonies. After retiring from the military, he began a career as a teacher.

Ben joined the staff of Stratford Central Secondary School in 1980. He taught music, conducted the Intermediate and Senior Bands, and assisted with the production of school musicals. Under his direction, the Senior Band was invited to perform in New Orleans. Ben Scott was a beloved music teacher who connected with his students and inspired many to take up a career in music.
