Marcus Nance

Music Theatre, Songs from the Screen And More, Voice-Other

Hailed as “thrillingly powerful” by The New York Times and “a major talent” by The Toronto Star, Marcus Nance is a 2025 and 2024 Dora Award winner and a 2025 Toronto Critics’ Award winner who masterfully straddles the worlds of opera, musical theatre, film, and cabaret.   Named My Entertainment World’s 2023 Critics’ Pick Performer of the Year, he was praised as “one of Canada’s greatest musical theatre talents.”

Marcus holds a BA in Music and Voice from California State University, Fresno, and pursued graduate studies at the University of Texas and the University of Illinois.   He's excited to be starting his first semester teaching voice at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Faculty of Music, alongside his work at Sheridan College’s Musical Theatre Department.  In 2024, he was master voice teacher and curriculum designer for Stratford Summer Music’s Vocal Academy and has served as resident voice instructor at the Charlottetown Festival.  His teaching philosophy centers on authenticity, combining bel canto technique with Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) to achieve easy, expressive vocal production. This personal approach has enabled him to perform across all music genres, and it is the goal he sets for his students —while making learning fun and engaging.   He regularly leads masterclasses and adjudicates festivals across Canada and the U.S.    He recently served on the 2025 International Congress of Voice Teachers Program Committee and performed as a soloist in the opening ceremonies in Toronto
